Astra mk3 towbar fitting electrical help

    Hey there,

just fitted the towbar to my hatch mk3.

I used scotch locks to simply clip the wires together e.g yellow of connector to left indicator.

Still no joy though, nothing works!!!!!

I'm simply using the towbar 7 core electrics connected straight to the left light cluster wirings. Is that right?

    Thanks
    rob

    Hiya mate

You can connect straight to the cars wiring if you want but by law you are surpose to have an audible "buzzer" to let you know if the trailer indicators stop working,

but if you are connecting without a buzzer the colours are :

pin 1 yellow - left indi
    pin 2 blue - fog
pin 3 while - earth (can normally get away with scotching it to earth in loom rather and drilling a hole and screwing in a terminal connector)
pin 4 green - right indi
pin 5 brown - left side light * ( normally connect the brown and black together then on to the loom to save running a cable to other light loom )
    pin 6 red - brake
pin 7 black - right side light

if you have done that already and nothings working its either a problem with your earth or your light board/ trailer lights are buggered

    hey there

Have earthed it from the white, just bare stripped copper to the brown wire that is already earthed? to the body.

    Is that sufficient?

    thanks

Believe due to the cars wiring, canbus system you will need a a 7 way by pass relay. It has it's own 12v feed, all the wires from the 12n socket are wired to the relay, the relay than has tracer wires which you connect into the cars wiring which act as signal wires to the relay to power the lights on what ever you are towing. Would also recommend directly soldering the wires as opposed to scotch locks.
