    Airbag module

    Hi every1,

    I bought an Astra 2.2 DTI year 2002, but except some problems that i fixed i also have another one with airbag warning light. Two or three mechanics sad that the airbag module should be replaced. For three months now i have been searching for the module but i cannot find the exact one, which is 09 229 302 BF Siemens. Some electrician told me that even other modules (with different code) would work but at the same time my mechanic told me that only this model would fit. Can you please help me on this, would any other module with different code fit or should i keep searching for this one ?

    It looks these modules had been fitted only on newer models (year 2002+) which are hard to find at second hand dealers here. My Astra has 4 airbags if that helps.

    Thank you in advance, i hope to sort this since i don't really feel comfortable driving like this. Thanks again.

    PS. This is how my module looks:

    is the airbag ecu definitely at fault?

    have u had the light switched off by Tech2/op-com? may just go off and stay off - obviously presuming you aint dislodged any connectors under the seats or on the wheel...

    failing that of course - a replacement is on the cards

    is that your EXACT module above?

    the BF unit has changed part numbers to 09 195 635

    BF were certainly only fitted to hatch,saloon,estate van and zafira models from engine numbers
    22000001->
    25000001->
    26000001->
    28000001->

    and the same models in South Africa from numbers
    32000001->
    35000001->
    36000001->
    38000001->

    Whether or not this ties in line with your 2002+ info I cant say for certain.

    As with most parts with IDENT codes, its always advisable to get the correct one.

    I suspect if u can find one from another model with the same amount of airbags youll be on the safe side, id certainly check all airbag connections first and have the light switched off by diagnostics machine first if u havent already tried this.

    Would be worth checking with opcom/tech 2 as geordiebandit says. If its an old error then it can just be deleted, or if not you could identify which airbag was at fault.

    Thank you very much for your quick replies.

    Yes my ECU is the exact one like that on the pic (09 229 302 BF), and as far as i understand all mechanics who checked it used tech2 (i checked in goole images it looks the same). Also there is a garage specialized in electronics and he said he could fix it, but when i went to take it he told me that half of it (one side) is not working ("burned") so i cannot be fixed :S.

    They are assuming the car was crashed and the ECU cannot be used anymore after crash, it should be changed. I really dont know what to belive anymore. My car has rust everywhere, not much but it has. Can this be the problem and the wiring has cought some rust also so it does not communicate with ECU, and in com/tech2 shows like the ECU is not working?

    Thank you all very much for trying to help me, i really appreciate it

    PS. This is how the mechanics "computer" looks like, i guess this is com/tech2:

    Unless the airbag ECU has been damaged you should be able to reset it.
