iv'e had my motor (mk5 astra sri 2.0 turbo) for nearly a year and it had a service last september and iv'e never had to top up the oil? i check it every 2 weeks as i did today and it's up to the full mark as always, is this normal or am i just a lucky bloke with a perfect car

dependant on use my astra can be nearly as bad on oil usage as my scoobs.

if i use the car to and from work (65milesish a day) normally find i have to top her up after a few weeks.

however have had months when the car stays at home and i use the fiesta to get to work, so the astra only does small journeys and the oil level hasnt moved.

i was the same as you mate with my previous Astra (SXi), i gave it an oil change every 12 months and never had to put a drop in between services when i did my weekly checks. i do however use silkolene pro-sport ester oil, so it is either down to my oil choice or a very good engine with little wear. my current Astra coupe is proving the same, no oil top ups since i got it last november and also running on pro-sport.

At 155,000 miles my Z16XE was losing less than 1 litre every 20,000 so hardly ever needed topped up. How it should be really.

I have never had to top up either of my astras, 1.8 and a 1.6turbo between services, level never moves really.

Not needing to top your oil up is a good thing.

However if you need to, doesn't mean to say there's a serious issue.

I have to top mine up occasionally, but it's a 1.8 and getting towards 90k.
I'm assuming the oil loss will be slight wear in the piston rings, so it gets burnt off.

mines got around 70k on the clock. there are no tell tale signs of an oil leak, ie patches on my drive etc, but as my brother-in-law works for vauxhall will get him to take it in and give it the once over, cant do no harm.
