Hi, just about to fit new timing belt so thought i would set timing first before i remove the old belt. removed crank pulley as there are no marks on it for timing so i turned the engine over by hand till the crank sprocket lined up (pointing verticaly downward) but the cam sprocket t/ mark is a good 25 degrees out, then tried lining cam sprocket up and same again crank sprocket mark is way out. Can the timing be this far out? this belt has done 46000 mi, the engine was running ok before i started, also noticed the tensioner pointer does'nt line up with the mark on the back plate aswell.Turned the engine over and over but they just dont line up at the same time like they are supposed to.
dont know wether to take the old belt off and just set timing by the book.what do you think?
