How to tell if my astra engine was flooded with petrol?

    Hi

My brother took my car out and the next day when i tried to start it the engine was vibrating a lot and there was a distinct eggy/sulphur smell coming from the exhaust (and in the car), performance was down and it was juddering continuously. No lights showing on dash, checked oil level, petrol tank was half full and electrics were working fine.

I started the car up today and it seems normal again, no sulphur smell, no excessive vibrating or juddering etc.

My brother says he was quite agressive on the throttle the day before the problems and i'm thinking perhaps he flooded the engine and this was the cause of the problems?

Any ideas whether this may be the case or if any one has had this issue with their mk4 astra (envoy 8v 199? I'm a noob when it comes to cars so forgive me if my assumptions are wrong.

    Thanks

I highly doubt that it's flooded. Even with what you've described, it would take some MAJOR overfuelling to flood it even with hard driving.

To me, the smell would indicate that you have cat issues. Be it the actual cat or an issue before the cat affecting it. Would get it checked though.
