    Question Brake Seized??

Driving along today the car felt like it was down on power a little bit (that might just be cos I've just put a full tank of petrol in it though)

When I parked up there was a slight smell and the drivers side front brake was very hot - the passengers was no where near as hot

the car wasnt pulling to one side and the brakes were working fine.

they are the standard crappy 256mm discs

Is it likely that my caliper is seizing up??

How would I check whether they are sticking? just jack the car up and see if the wheel will turn??

    Cheers

    Matt

Sounds like the caliper Matt, when you stop and the wheel is hot, it may be that the hot wheel will be more difficult to turn.

Just jacked the car up and the wheel was turning freely - it is cold though

I'll have to see if its still getting hot next time I use the car.

If it is knackered then the 280mm upgrade will be done

If it's a siezed caliper then check your pads as one side will be worn significantly compared to the other. My old astra had a siezed caliper and it went through a set of pads in just over a week on one side only.
