    mk 4 gear linkage

when replacing the gear linkage in the engine bay is it simply a case of remove the old one and put in the new one? this is the next step to hopefully solving my "shite" gear change, process of elimination i suppose!

    cheers

It is pretty much mate. Remove the pin that engages the gearbox to the mech, lift off the 2 U clips on the round black bungs bungs, prise the two off the rods they sit on, slide the new one on, and its reversal of taking off

Just make a mark on the shaft that joins the mech to the rod ad gearstick assembly, so it all lines up nicely

i changed one last weekend on a corsa - total doddle - well it would have been if i remembered to make a mark/notch on the rod that entered from the gearstick end!

u can buy the parts individually but better still, just buy the complete assembly and change it over - thats what i did and will be doing to the F17 on the van too.

what engine do u have though?

when you say make a mark, do you mean mark where the schaft comes from the lever in the car to where it joins to the linkage in the engine?

i dont even know if changing the gear linkage is going to solve my problems, im hoping that it will as id rather it wasnt something internal in the gearbox, basically when changing up and down the gears when driving the car feels shite, changing down from 5th to 4th to 3rd can be very tight, other times gear change is uncomfy. changed the gear oil, added a gearbox protection (mollyslip) which didnt help. a mechanic and a mate have driven the car a both doubt that its the clutch thats at fault. i did one day reach down to the rear of the engine and gae the linkage a good shake and it seemed to improve it for a little while that day and then back to feeling shite. just want it to feel as good as it used to!

    any suggestions
