Thumbs Up Astravan Dilemma... Stay C20Let or Change to Z20LET

Ive got a 2000 W AstraVan. (Project Diary on here)

It was a basic 17000 DTi Envoy. I fitted a C20LET with Astra mk4 F23 Gearbox, Shafts etc.

Van is in use daily. Not missed a beat, although there are a few niggles with the conversion which i havnt sorted. eg, temp guage not working.

I recently broke a mk4 GSi Astra, and im now left with all the mechanicals and electrical looms.

Being a basic van, i know if i fitted the engine and all wiring looms, heater boxes, ac pipes etc, i could have it running with everything working. and on top airconditioning, cruise control, fuel computer, temp guage etc all as they should be.

Doing this conversion, i dont know whether the ABS will also need to be transfered. Something id need to consider.

Van is currently Phase 2 EDS with a front mount etc. Goes well and i dont wish to look for anymore power. I know it wouldnt be too much of a thing to get the Z20LET to a similar state of tune.

Im not sure whether to stick with what ive got, and sell the ZLET and ancillaires, or to make the change? Help, Advice and Opinions wanted...

What is the mileage like on both engines?.. What would would be your reasons / interests for wanting to swap out the C20Let for the Z20Let? Is it due to reliability or just the added creature comforts you are seeking?

Although old in age, I have personally always preferred the Redtop engines something I wish Vauxhall hadn't have phased out..

For me, if it isn't broken don't fix it....

    With MrStush on this one

See too many Z20's suffering with problems

    C20's are good workhorses

As for ABS, I believe the car won't go over 5.500rpm if the unit/pump it isn't fitted, think thats the case anyway.

    Agreed with the above.

If the engine is running and you know it - keep it until it lets you down. The new engine could be bitch and cause you more problems.

Also I like the C20LET in yours, its a little different and it works well

its a later C20LET. i know this because of the situation when it came to fitting the mount.

the mk4 astra gsi i broke had done 50 odd thousand miles. did about 100 miles in it with no lights on the dash. assume its pretty std but it went ok, recon turbo fitted last year too.

theres nothin wrong with the c20let, no taps from cold, no rattles etc. will be a good motor to sell on. its just at this point i have all the parts to fit the z20let and have a few new creature comforts which i cant have now (cruise, temp guage, ecu fan control, on board comp, and air con etc) IF i fitted a z20let i wouldnt want anything more power wise than i already have really.
