i've recently bought an Astra 2.0di (2000 'w-reg') and have had all sorts of problems with starting the bugger. basically when it got to 1/4 of a tank of fuel, it kept wanting to start but couldn't. then when it did start and was run till warm, 1st time every time. i spoke to a few of my mates who are mechanics and they changed the leak off pipes and injector seals - but i still had the same problem. so i put on a new battery, glow plugs, fuel filter, the leak off pipes and 't' pieces and a starter motor, which seemed to cure it - until it got to 1/4 of a tank again. i then put some millers fuel cleaner in it and it ran better but STILL had the same problem. i then searched the net and found out that it could be the fuel sender unit, as soon as i changed it the fuel guage went from 1/2 a tank to 1/4 of a tank - thus when it was trying to start with "1/4 of a tank" it was really running on fumes. this didn't solve the problem though, it now is warmer but it still struggles to start and when it does, i get a massive cloud of unburnt diesel chucked out of the exhaust.
could anyone please help me and throw some of your knowledge on the situation, thanks
