    egr valve question

I just got theegr valve changed in the zaf but the emissions light is still on. The garage guy told me that if i drive for abit it will go of itself eventually. is this true or is he just making it up to get rid of me?
    thanks

it will go off after a number of starts if the EGR cured the fault, but if the EGR was not the fault then the EML will stay on, you could disconnect the battery for an hour, this will reset the ECU.

fingers crossed they fitted a genuine EGR and not a cheap one from the likes of "airflowmetercompany" on ebay! If so, then the light will never go out!

Providing the EGR was the cause of the EML and the part is reputable then it should go out over time - personally I always reset the ECU just in case

if new e.g.r. valve may also require an e.c.u update via tech-2. some do some don't. However if e.g.r was cause then e/m/l should have gone out or garage delete the trouble codes as fixed fault. If still on then most prob will be another fault. Trust me i work wi these everyday at vauxhall. lol

A second hand EGR? Keep an eye on it then, would be frustrating to replace a broken one with another broken one...

well it looks like a spring lol

It starts flashing as soon as i turn the ignition on and it keeps flashing until i turn the engine off.

hmmm ive only ever seen it do its normal thing and light up when the temp is low prior to starting

usually a flashing light indicates a fault within that particular system - in this case the glow plugs.

Obviously my knowledge of Vxl dervs is limited so couldnt say for sure im afraid

Might be worth retracing your route taken doing the EGR as u could have missed a pipe or hose or similar.... apart from that ill step aside and await the derv experts

maybe worth a thread in the diesel section
