    track rod ball joint

i am trying to the nut from my front hub carrier to release the track rod but i cannot find anywhere to grip it so it will stop spinning when i try to undo the nut.

usualy there is a flat spot so i can get an adjustable spanner on it to hold it....isnt there?

every track rod end ive done ive just grinded off and fitted a new one - much simpler

you could try a ball joint seperator but 9/10 times youll still end up grinding it

Good luck from me too I tried for hours to get mine off and the grinder did the job in the end. Needs the tracking reset after though, but if you're careful to measure/count the threads it may not end up too bad. New ones were £13 each from a local motorfactor for my MK4.

Are you changing the hub carriers? A local neighbourhod Ffoeg ground the base/nut off when mine were changed so we had a bit left to hold when removing the locking bolt from the steering arm.

Not sure - the motor factor ones I bought had torx heads so they couldn't spin.
