    Steering control lights

    Hi All,

My steering wheel controls work great with my Alpine HU however, my problem is that the lights on the controls.

When the radio is on, the lights on the steering control works but when i switch and start playing a cd, the lights on the steering controls goes out

Anyone else have this problem?? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    Alex

you might need to swap a wire over on the control box as IIRC the stearing control lights should only come on when the radio is in use..

It's because you've got the wire for the illumination of the controls connected to the electric aerial power. When on CD this isn't required, so your head unit turns it off.
Go to the ISO plug behind your head unit, cut the grey wire on pin 5 (Electric aerial) & reconnect it to pin 6 (Dash illumination).

Sorry SQ man but thats wrong. From the factory the steering wheel controls only come on when the stereo's switched on (ok with radio and CD)

Cutting that grey wire will mean the steering wheel controls will come on at night only but also the date on the top display will then go out at night

People have said a simple fix is to leave TA switched on so the radio's always looking for traffic announcments

@ Autosparks, re-read the first post, the OP is using an Alpine head unit, not a factory fit unit.
The Grey wire goes to the same pin as the Red/White electric aerial power & MFD switching.
If the Grey is transferred to the illumination feed it will light up the controls when the dash lights are on, it wont affect the MFD.
I know this mod works, I've done it on my own car.

I know what was posted in the first post, I was only using the factory stereo as a example as to the fact they come on when the radios on and not the lights

I have a aftermarket radio myself and my lights still come on only when the stereo's on. Ok I got my wires mixed up (grey and red/white) but know for a fact that the red/white wire controls the steeing wheel controls

No it doesn't. It does go to the same pin on the ISO though.

I know they go to the exact same pin on the ISO, I have a picture of it somewhere but I know cutting the red/white stops both the date coming on the top display and the steering wheel controls.
