I use roof bars with a cycle rack, I can just about fit three on.

I too would be interested in knowing some more about bike carriers. My car came with a tow hitch with mounting holes either side for a bike carrier. This tempts me more than a roof rack, as lifting bikes up that high, is surely a recipe for scratched paintwork?! Of course the downside of tow hitch rack, is no access to the boot without taking everything off and fiddling about tying on a number plate.

Anyway, whole bunch here that look reasonable:

i have an attachment that allows them to be carried on the rear and it bolts onto the towbar fitting and also allows pit bikes etc to be carried as its fully adjustable for different size wheels

You could look at the Maxxraxx towbar carriers. I have just traded my old vectra in for a zafira and I will be fitting a towbar and the Maxxraxx carrier to see if its ok. The carrier has a pivot pin at the bottom where it plugs into the towbar bracket and a removable bolt to allow the carrier to be hinged away from the car for access to the boot. This worked fine on the Vectra but I'm not sure if it will be ok on the Zafira yet because of the size and swing of the rear door. I might find out at the weekend if the weathers ok and I get it fitted.

    Regards

I used the one from halfords, was a three bike carrier, but easily fitted two adult and two kids bikes.

As for fitting over the spoiler, the arms at the top are quite flexible so it wasn't an issue.

I was still concerned about the mass of metal hanging off the back, or potentially not while i was winging it down the motorway. so i made a safety line from bits and bobs from B&Qit mainly plastic coated wire, eyelets, wire dogs, and caribeenas (SP), worked a treat, looped that round the tailgate hinges and onto the carrier frame.
