    Angry astra 1.6 8v problems

    hi there all
    i need some help please
i have just bought a astra van, 1.6 8v, i know i keep readin it, not a good engine, lol
but i have a problem when it drives, as i put my foot down it hesitates and coughs and splutters, through the gears, but no engine light on at all, idles fine, drives lovely when cold. just when warm and go to put my foot down to over take etc, nothin, just holds back and runs shit!! also checked the timing and its fine.
    i have replace the following

    ht leads
    plugs
    air filter
    oil filter
    oil
    fuel filter
    e g r valve
head gasket has also been done(so the previous owner said) but no head problems.

i have read that it could b coilpack, idle control valve, or temp sensor
    or a ecu fault???
i dont know what it is and its baffeling me to pieces, i need to fix it and asap, so please can people help me on what to do
    many thanks

biggest problems on this engine relate to EGR problems and general ECU issues. clean out the throttle body and all breather pipes from the cam cover to throttle body as they get very gummed up on this engine and strangle it. where did the EGR come from, did you buy a genuine one?

was a motor factors egr, but brand new, but there was a egr fault on the ecu, so have cleared the fault, cleaned the throttle bodie, just got to see how it gets on now.
why could it still b egr if its not genuine??

there are alot of pattern EGR's out there and from experience quite a few people have learnt that only the OE Delphi ones are any good, if yours is a Delphi one then no worries mate

have ordered both new temp sensors, change them tomorrow, also need to know if it is supposed to have a oxygen sensor, looks like it has been removed.

yes it should have a single wire O2 sensor screwed into the side of the down pipe section and if it is missing then this could well be your problem

has a lander sensor, i mean the green or brown plug which is usually, by the header tank
    but finally got somewhere
took it to a friend, with the fuel below quarter of a tank, van at its worse less than quartr of a tank.
finally get told it is the fuel sender, orderin a new one tomorrow, after changing everything i always put some fuel in, and the van runs much better with over half a tank in it.
    how silly i am, lol
over £300 spent on items not needed, but thats lide, lets hope it is what is said.

From what you said above you have a Delphi EGR fitted so I don't think it is that. The only other thing I know that can cause these symptoms is the knock sensor - the idle may be fine but give the engine some work to do and it runs like a bag of nails as if the power is there/gone/there/gone etc.

I've never heard of one go on here beyond the one on my current engine but the car is horrible to drive!

the power is there, put my foot down and there is no problems at all, its driveing in low rev range that in drives like a bag of nails
so if it isnt a delphi egr it could be the problem??
