This morning's little task - completed

This is the first time i've been able to get in the workshop for 2 weeks so I thought I'd get a little job that has been overdue for a while.

I've had a spare subframe which I had powdercoated sitting in the stores for a good while now, so I thought it was about time i got it ready to fit. I ordered some new bushes and set about fitting this morning. I have also removed the rear engine mount as this was pretty minging, I never had this blast cleaned when i had the subframe powdercoated for some reason.

I used a piece of threaded bar, a large socket 36mm IIRC, and 2 nuts and washers. Oh yeah, and loads of moly grease.

I haven't thought that far ahead really. It's not gonna be an on and off ine a day job, i'm gonna have to leave the frame off and the engine craned for a couple of days whilst i get my engine mountings and Whitleline ARB powdewr coated. I only had the uprated ARB fitted a couple of years ago but the paint is already shot on it and there's plenty of crust on it.

I'm just trying to find a full set of spare mounts atm so i can get those on pretty quickly. As for having it realligned, i'll just get it looked at once everything is back together.

I have no tax atm as my car is going to the bodyshop for a few weeks on monday so this is prep for getting it changed over in the sumer some time

Looking good buddy - i know what a pain it can be to put those bushes in - you think there going in straight, then they just angle them selves, then you got to start again...

what was the reason behind powder coating the subframe?

They weren't a paint to get in at all, in fact it was one of the simplest jobs i've done. They didn't go in straight at first buts that's due to the rubber flange on the bottom. Once you get to the metal core, they straighten themselves out. It's not really aa job you can get wrong if you use the right tools.

Because as many of you know, i have a horn for powdercaoting!

And you will see more of it when i swap engines as there will be less clutter in the engine bay, no battery, headertank, airbox, aircon, or anything else i can get rid of or hide. And because as Kev said it's stops it rusting, and mainly because it was cheap
