Corsa C 1.2 gear selection problem.

A friend of mine owns a 2002 corsa c 1.2. He has been complaining of problems getting the car into gear recently, I had a little test drive and it feels awful!

1st and 2nd are nigh on impossible to get to without jamming the stick hard over to the left. Once in gear all feels fine, so i'm jumping to the conclusion that the selector just needs re-aligning.

Would I be right in this assumption, or do you think the problem runs deeper than this?

    Cheers

    Dan

If the vehicle has the original gear linkage than that could be the fault. Corsa C's are known for the dodgy gear linkage that wears over time. There is a replacement part that solves the problem from vauxhall. Although when mine went, it popped both ball joints out the gear selector and I was stuck in first! lol. You can pop them back in but they will come back out again. It happened to my gf's car as well. It sounds like your mates car could possibly be heading this way because mine became stiff to engage gears at first. It may not be the cause but thought I would voice my opinion

Thanks officialuk ^^^. So a replacement linkage is the best route to go for in your opinion then? Any ideas on the cost of the linkage from VX? Do I need to ask my mate to sit down before telling him?

Definately gear linkage if its not been replaced before. Plastic parts always wear and they should have recalled the lot imo.

Its about £20 for the uprated gear linkage. Part number im pretty sure is 93183155 from Vauxhall parts desk.

Or you could get it from ebay - CLICK ME

Make sure it comes with the pin for fitting - 90523189 pin £2.19 inc vat

Can be done by any competent mechanic so dont put it through vauxhall.

Jump over to http://www.corsa-c.co.uk/forum/forum.php and search for "gear linkage" and you'll see its very common.
