M4 ASTRA Farting!! PLS HELP ME!! I'm Useless

    Hi,

This is my 1st post so I hope it's in the correct section.

Just after some advice really before I take my Astra M4 1.4L (16v) into a garage.

I am useless when it comes to cars but can take things apart very easily. It's just putting them all back together

    Anyhow -

I am trying to work out what the blowing/farting sound is that comes from the front of the car when I change down into 3rd from 4th. There is a bit of a slow pick up / power loss and I can put my foot right down and the car takes time to respond pick back up.) When this strain is there, there is a farting noise that comes from the front of the car until the car has picked up speed again then it goes.

This seems to be getting worse but everything is silent when idle or revving the engine.

For example if I dropped down into 3rd from 4th to take a right and I' crawling to approx 5 mph then put my foot right down to get the power to speed back up the car makes a blowing/farting noise from the front until car picks back up. The noise is quite loud if I have the window down.

    Can anyone help??

    Thanks in advance everyone

UPDATE - I have just been out to look at the air filter and have noticed that one of the pipes looks a little loose. See image -

Where the blue ring there is nothing secured into this hole. The entire pipe that's connect here seems to be just slipped over top.

Still I'm a novice but could this be the issue here...??

Try the airbox first, (and air filter), just see if they are properly mounted / not clogged and all pipes are secure and so on.

EDIT: Also 3rd gear and doing 5mph? wasn't aware that was possible without the clutch and even then the car should seriously struggle, it would take a shit load of air to get power down at 400rpm in gear 3 doing 5mph... Unless I have read this wrong...

Some mechanic listened to it not so long ago and said it wasn't
the exhaust but I never took car back in for a full check.

Wasn't being too exact about the 5 mph - was just to give
you a slightly over the top example.

Doesn't really do it in any other gear apart from 3rd when i should idealy be in 2nd.

Can feel the car trying to catch back up to speed but makes a farting sound.

Noticed it start after I had the service done. Do you think it could be something
    to do with that?

What do you think i should check honestly ??

    Thanks again everyone

When the car is on idle, pop the bonnet and get a friend to stamp on the accelerator and listen for a very fast and faint farting sound... if it happens then hold the air box (firmly) and get them to do it again, I know it sounds a little silly but try it..

if it is then it could be the clips that are holding the airbox together (they've not been put back on properly or have bent or expanded (with heat).

if so it's just a case of a few new little clips, you may even be missing a clip (just the ones that hold the airbox together, these clips would of been removed in order to fit the new air filter) so saying that it started after a service kind of highlights the box further.
