Anyone with experience of various postal services?

I only ever use royal mail
    1st/2nd class
    recorded
    special delivery

That's all i've ever used, so....

I've got to send my head unit back to Alpine. It weighs in at 2020g. It retails around £160 - £180, so sending it via anything other than special is risky/stupid as the insurance wont be there.

    http://www.seajays.org.uk/postage/index.cfm?

If it was 21g lighter, it'd cost me £8.65. As it stands, it'll cost me £21.65

Is there a cheaper way that still offers insurance just in case the postal service "loses" it?

It could be cheaper to take it to coventry my bloody self on the train

I just thought after posting that .... a lot of these depots (DHL, City Link etc) aren't anywhere near me - they're in Preston, which is out of my way & out of anyone i know's way too.

I imagine you've got to get on down to the depot yourself & if i'm going to get on down to Preston, there's a car audio store there that could possibly do the bluetooth updating anyway.

I've emailed the store to see if they'll do it or if they can do it, just in case.

I agree with the above, I have just used Parcel2Go as well and to have a 15kg PC delivery was £22 including insurance up to £700. Iphone was sent for £11 with insurance of £300, that was via Home Delivery Network 24-72 hours or you can pay more for next day etc but its a very good site.

Try parcelforce, they are pretty good.

You could try prepaying it at 2kg and then taking it to your postoffice hoping they dont weigh it.

Ahh you're lifesavers!! I didn't know they collected from your home.

Just as well - the audio store in Preston that i emailed didn't get back to my email at all today.

It's been a bag of shizzle having my breaks at work in a car with no radio
