    How much should i pay for brakes?

    Hi there,

    I have a 51 plate Astra SXI.

    All work has been carried out by Vauxhall so far.

    At the last service they said i had 40% left on the front and back break pads.

    They quoted me approximately £169 for the front and £167 for the back. This seems very high to me?

    So my questions are;

    Is that quote well over the top?
    If i was to take it to say Kwik fit where they have quoted £130 for both would there be a major step down in quality?
    Does anyone know of any good garages in Hertfordshire that use genuine Vauxhall parts?
    At what point should i change the break pads is 40% about right or can you go lower?

    Thanks

    At the end of the day many people will go by budgets so if it was me id go to Kwik fit.

    They will have the same expertise and skill to do, and will do it to the same if not better standard than vauxhall.

    I think many people will agree with me when i say vauxhall have a tendancy to overcharge IIRC.

    You could source the parts and fit all them yourself for less than half that mate.

    If you can DIY it then £50 should do everything, pads are easier to do, shoes are a pain, lol, dam the brakes on my car
