    Advice desperately needed; big problem...

    Hi guys,

I have a technical issue which I think potentially could be big and difficult to resolve.

On the weekend I replaced the drive shaft and hub on my 2001 Coupe turbo, turned out to be quite a straight forward job. However, once I put everything back together and started the engine I have noticed that three lights have appeared on the dash...

    1) Abs light
    2) Traction Control light
    3) And a light with a spanner...?

Is it possible to get these lights off? Its starting to worry me because II dont know how to go about it. A friend of mine said to disconnect the battery for 30 mins and they should disappear. However if I do this I will lose my radio/cd as I cant find the security code for it...?

I am in need of desperate advice, tips etc...

    Many thanks

    Matt

Have you plugged the sensor back in at the hub?

also, if you drive the car does the speedo and power steering work?

if the answers are yes and no,

the fuse may have gone (some people pull this out for 1/4 mile runs as it turns off traction control)

have you fitted the hub with a sensor on it or have you forgotten to plug the abs sensor in again, could be the wrong hub

The hub was off my friends 2003 GSI, should be the same i think.

The power steering is working although the speedo isnt working either... Everything is plugged in as normal. I havent checked the fuses yet, probably bit too dark now though. Will a diagnostic machine switch the lights off?

Big thanks to the quick responce guys, appreciate it

If it's not the fuses and everything is plugged in there may be a problem with the sensor.
If it was just a glitch then your speedo would be working.
A Diagnostic machine will clear the lights and read any faults, but if the cause isn't resolved the lights will come back on again within moments.

    Check fuse 23

yes it would turn it off but they would return again i bet, you have to get to the root of the problem, could be a dodgy wheel sensor that would give the problem, put your old hub back on and see if it goes

I will check the fuses tomorrow and take the wheel back off just to double check i have put the sensors back on (99% sure I have). Failing this, I think I may need to change the sensor... any ideas on how much they would cost and how difficult they would be to change?

We have a race on here who can return the fasters replies lol.

    Thanks you
