    Question for the Turbo Boffins..

Right Guys, I apologise if this has already been covered as I couldn't seem to find the relevant asnwers from the VXR Turbo threads that I have read.

If you are running a Standard Turbo on a Z20let with a remap producing in the region of 235-240bhp, will the actuator on a VXR turbo need to be adjusted when fitted to a Let?.

VXR Turbo units have actuators set in the Redzone i.e redpaint which exposes around 5-7 threads, whilst standard Z20let Turbos have between 3-4 threads exposed.

I figure a remapped Z20Let producing similar power to a standard LEH then the VXR Unit shouldn't need adjusting is this correct in practice?.

No it needs adjusting, slacken the nuts off, hold the waste gate close with your thumb and screw the nut up to it finger tight. Then give it one full turn with a spanner and that should be ok. You should now have about 3-4 threads.

    (sorry if it sounds stupid)
    whats the waste gate?,
is it the metal bit at the top of the thread with the vaccum pipe coming off it?

the wastegate is the lilttle flap that sits inside the manifold - its connected to the actuator rod at the bottom - once u release the nuts the wastegate can then be held shut using the little bit where the rod goes thru

will become apparent if u have a look

BurrTony, why does the actuator need to be adjusted if in principle you are running the same / similar power from a remapped LET to a VXR?.. Apart from a few minor differences between the internals of LET and LEH i.e under fuelling pistons etc the power ranges are similar so why would it make a difference?.

Just wanna make sure incase I go down this route.

The adjustment on the actuator alters the amount of preload on the spring holding the wastegate closed. This preload alters the minimum pressure to crack the waste gate open. Higher preload means higher cracking pressure. The vxr is meant to operate at 10 psi and the let at 7-8 psi so doesnt need so much preload ie less threads showing.
