    hi need help with 02 astra saloon auto

    hi what a great site loads of info i am having a small problem with my wifes astra saloon when i press the button to select a gear(automatic) it selects ok but the button keeps falling out has anybody had this problem before and is there a way to fix it with out going to a main dealer

    i had this on a cdx i broke up, bloke just used abit tape because the button brakes! id say ull have to replace the selector stick.

    Yes I'm afraid you will have to replace the whole gearshift selector , I had to do this 3yrs ago with mine (well the main dealer did ) , It's pretty common fault with them and if I remember correctly they're about £90 +vat then fitting , I came across one last year in a breakers so I grabbed as a spare as they don't seem to pop up that often , but I would have a hunt in the breakers it's your best bet if not try EBay good luck,

    Oh a bit of advise try and get a second hand one with the cable attached as it's far easier threading it through to the engine bay and connecting it to the gearbox ,than it is removing it from the selector shaft without damaging the plastic clips
