Hi there, I am after some much needed URGENT help!!!
I have recently loaned my (Mk3 Astra 2.0l SRi 8 valve) to a good friend. He has had it for 5 weeks and in that time he's replaced the battery, fan belt, power steering belt and power sterring pump! All in all not a very good month for him! (or my wallet!!)
However today he broke down again but this time it seems more severe. He has had the AA out and been towed home. It appears the Cam has packed up! There was no sudden loud bang, the car still fires but doesnt turn over, so there is a possibility that the engine could still be ok! The belt is also in one piece! I am just wondering if the teeth on the bottom pully have worn away. So i suggested chucking another belt on to see what happens.
However, checking the top cam pully - it doesn't move, almost like its seized! Now you'll have to forgive my ignorance as i have never done this before, but is it supposed to be able to be turned by hand or is it indeed seized up??????
So my question is... Does this sound as bad as first appeared or could there in fact be a CHEAP light at the end of this tunnel??!!!!!
If it sounds ok, I will chuck on another belt making sure the timings right and see how we get on! If not then i'm afraid my car may not see another day!!!
Thanks in advance for and feedback!
