    New Engine ??

    Hi Guys,
Im pretty new to this and i own a astra 1.6 8v mk 4 i have got a creamy substance in my rocker box and i was told it was a blocked breather pipe so i had a garage clean them out for me but now i have driven it for a few days its starting to cream up again again any ideas what it could be i have been told it could be a new engine but i would rather get somemore advice first.

if it is an engine change is it possible to change to maybe a 1.4 16v ecotec engine or a 1.6 16v or is that to complicated ?

i hope to hear form you
    cheers rich

I opened my oil filler cap the other day and there was a 'mayo' type substance, and i thought omg head gasket bye bye, i have the same engine, however i soon learned its this damn weather and my very short 8 mile journey everyday thats causing oil to mix with condensation.

Giving it a long drive at the weekend to see if it shifts it. I also heard if this milky substance is in your engine coolant you can have a problem. Dont quote me, but if its just a blown head gasket it should just be a case of a new one rather than a new engine, however i may be wrong.

im starting to think that this could be a normal thing for this engine as we all have the same problem as long as it doesnt affect the performance its ok i would like to find out what causes it tho just out of curiousity mmmm

Its water vapour mixing with the oil in the engine (apparently) on shorter drives or in colder weather it is worse because the engine doesn't get hot enough to full evaporate it.

My engine on my MK4 1.8 sri died and to find a new one is like finding a needle in a haystack if its the z18xe, they're so rare, I was looking for 5ish months and eventually found the right one.

Good luck if you go with getting a new engine!

Yeah All of us 1.6 8v owners have been through this. No need to get a new engine dude lol, it's just a overcooling problem on these engines. Best bet is to just keep on top of removing it every now and again, and going for lengthy drives to try to keep your engine up in a high temperature!
