Insuring it in your Dad's name is called a fronting policy and is viewed very dimly by the insurers and the police, so be very very carefull doing that. If they can prove you are the main driver and doing the majority of the driving, they can and will take action.

    Sorry dude...but dont do that.
It's false economy....and will be illegal if your the main driver.

Depending on how much you're gonna spend, consider TPFT insurance rather than fully comp, that'll make it cheaper....
Better to build up your own NCB as early as you can.

The 1.8 will be more than adequate and a good start of Astra ownership
Plenty around so you should get a fairly decent one.

I live in South East London where insurance is high, but i got a 1.8 sri hatch & am only 21 myself, been well worth going on my own insurance, builds up your own no claims so prices drop by quite a bit every year. My insurance is looking at near enough halfing this year.

If you worried about costs, get a quote from adrian flux, that's who I am with, found them the cheapest by a long way.

The 1.8 is a decent car, i like mine a lot (although I do want to try get a GSI or SRI T soon). I do think though that on a motorway it can be a bit noisy, but if you just driving around town mainly like I am then you won't have to worry about that.

general [problems, its a astra, just ur usual stuff wi them really.
MPG depending on spec o car you can be looking at 30-40
performance, on the 1.8 it has a rather good kick, again depends on mods etc.

He asks for any other info, would have thought being made aware of committing insurance fraud would fall into that bracket.

Performance wise will get from 0-60 in around 8.5 seconds, that's quicker than a lot of cars out there like a lot of 3 series bmw etc & any focus upto a 2l. Only around 125bhp which is what I think lets it down, think they can be quite sluggish when you want to put your foot down, need more power in my opinion, but they are quicker than the main rivals like the Ford Focus.

Find it a little loud on the motorways like I mentioned before. If you doing a lot of motorway driving you would be better off looking at a 2.2 IMO, but again that is more insurance.

I bought mine last year & the only problem I found is that in the freezing temperatures you have to leave the handbrake down & the car in gear or it freezes(not sure if coupe is the same).

Can get some very nice leather interiors with the coupe.
