    Jacking point collapsed

Was jacking my car up tonight as my ABS light was on after changing my suspension (one of the wheel sensors was unplugged, typically the last wheel I jacked up!) and the rear jacking point folded in on itself, I had barely got the wheel off the ground and this happened, they were already pretty bent out of shape.

    Can this be repaired?

    Was I doing something wrong?

If this cant be repaired where can I jack the car and support it safely? I usually jack the front of the car up from the subframe, where it joins onto the wish bone then put the axle stand on the jacking point behind the skirt, on the rear I usually jack it up from the rear axle towards the side and not the middle, then put the axle stand on the jacking point behind the skirt, occasionally I will just jack the car up from the jacking point if I am not working under the car like tonight.

    Any help much appreicated.

Got no pics at the minute, its not just a small bit has folded back, its a good 9 inches or so that has went completely flat, whatever is behind it is pretty strong as this is where the rear axle is secured to so would assume I could jack from here instead but would like to make sure, luckily the jack slipped back onto this bit and not forward or I would have had a damaged skirt and possibly more!, the car still stayed up in the air though.

Pretty much why I won't go under my car without axle stands

Sounds a bit strange though, I wonder if the damage was done before you owned the car and it just re-appeared now?

Even if there was an axle stand it could still have went which makes me very cautious now! I think its just the amount of times I jack my car up, also its age, its coming up to 12 years old now and I have owned it for nearly 4. Just bought a new jack and axle stands yesterday, very impressed with them for the price, can get the car nice and high if needed.

You can still jack the car up, just have to use a trolley jack ideally. I managed to pick one up with axel stands for £25 from screwfix.

Where can I jack at the rear of the car, is it safe to jack just behind the jacking point?

I have a trolley jack as listed above.

Have been told you can jack under the rear spring. I tried it once and didn't like it though TBH.
