Thumbs Up ECU Programming or not!

    Hi All,

    I've just bought a 51 Astra Estate mk4 17tdi and I was wondering could I pick you're brains.

The previous owner had the following happen: Car stoped, took it to a mechanic who told him ECU was duff. Replaced ecu from a scrap vehicle and charged him £250.00. Car now starts but will only tick over. He suggested there was a wiring fault on the vehicle. I was thinking it needs to be programmed to the car (am I correct?)

I'm from South Wales so does anyone know if there's a top sparky in my kneck of the woods to have a gander at the car?

I'm having the fault codes read tomorrow so I'm hoping this will help me.

    Any Ideas would be fab?

Thanks in advance for reading and giving feedback!!!!

the ecu on top of the engine has to be recoded as this holds the immobiliser info the ecu down the back of the engine is plug and play if your car starts then it is probably not a immobiliser problem
    which ecu did he change?

Thanks for your prompt reply Steve, I'm unsure which unit was changed on the car. The receipt shows supply and fit EDU if that means anything.

hmmm i would probally say that was the one down the back (common fault on them) as you have said the car stopped
the replacement unit may also be faulty?
i think its a bit cheeky fitting a unit from a scrap car and charging £250 (is his name dick turpin)?
if the code/codes come back as spool valve fault them its a duff unit but can be repaired v.cheaply
