    Help on a window problem

Hi Everyone. I've just joined the AOC forum and thought I'd pick your collective brains if that's OK

I've just bought an '05 Astra that has been used as a police car, and because of this the rear electric windows have been deactivated, both from the front and the rear buttons

I'm assuming I'm going to have to take the door cards off to have a look but before I start pulling it to pieces can anyone tell me what they'd look for first assuming they'd just bought it please?

If the wires are still attached to the buttons (not that I've checked yet) what would be the next thing to look at if that's the case

Thanks for any and all answers, Carl.

    Welcome Carl

Is this a MK4 or MK5 Astra? First thing i'd check is the fuse, it's the simple thing to do and removing it would stop the rear windows working

Sounds like a good port of call for the first check mate

Check this post if you're not sure of the fuse box layout!

    Hi, I think it's MK5 Astra...I think, lol!

I'm pretty sure the fuse has been checked but I'll double check in the morning. Thanks for your replies

Thanks Proxy. It's a Mk5..does that mean the link to the fuse box diagram is correct or was that from a MK4.

    Thanks again, Carl

Well, I've had a look and the fuse was missing...

The guy I bought it from said that a mechanic had already checked that out
BUT, the problem I've got now is that only the passenger side rear window works, not the drivers side rear window, how strange is that

I've checked to see if it was the locks on the drivers console stopping it working but the window locks don't work whether I put them on or not, on either the working or non-working window. Now I'm just con-fused (geddit ).

Thanks again for your replies so far, but canm I pester you for an extra bit to see if I can get the drivers side rear window working too. What are your thoughts?

    Thanks for everything, Carl.

Next thoughts are to wip the door panel off and check the motor and switch is plugged in and maybe check the door grommet wiring to that door for broken wires

Anything after that will need a volt meter to test the wires
