To buy or not to buy, emergency advice needed!

    Hello guys, me again.

i have been around and looked at a few astras now, found one that is in good condition.

    what i like about it:

    good mileage,
    nice colour (black)
    good trim (CD)
    good price
    good engine(eco tech 1.6i 16v)
looks very clean inside and out
    rear spoiler
    no dents scratches etc

things i dont like about it

    wood effect dash
    no cd player
    dont love the alloys
    no ABS

the price is just about my budget, just dont know if i should wait for maybe a sxi or generally another one. but this one seems to be very well looked after, FSH and last service was done at 80,568 which i presume means the cam belt was done.

just let me know what you think of it

    UPDATE

the guy who was trying to sell us the car, gave me the details of the garages where the car was last serviced with dates and mileage and ill find out on monday whether the cam belt was done at 80k, 69k or 73k. these mileages where the last three times the car was serviced in the last three years.

i tell you, it's looking promising, will probably buy it if the cambelt has been done!

    UPDATE 2

didnt buy it. it had a annoying constant noise from the power steering oil pump and he didnt get it fixed and i didnt take it!

Looks good to me mate and the wood trim you could swap for somthin else, could get bigger/nicer wheels, could buy a CD player quite cheap and ABS who needs it takes the fun away

If you phone to enquire about the car just ask if it was done with the service and if not you can always try to knock the price down and say somthin like "well timing belt needs doin hows about nockin a bit off so i can get that done" try and be as cheecky as you can mate it sometimes pays off (i got £200 of one car i bought by bein a cheecky f***er)

The price seems a bit steep for a T Plate 5 door of that spec and mileage. Make sure you go in alot lower if you do decide to buy

Should have had 2 timing belts by now (every 40K). If it's not been done bid them £1K, no more, you'll need the £250 to get it sorted ASAP.

Yes it's steep for a average mileage car

However, it's 11 years old and only done 81k miles. So low miles for the year.

As already don't presume the Cam Belts done, make sure it has, if there's no record, presume it HASN'T been done and get it sorted (with the water pump)

go for it, the things you dont like can easy be sorted in time.

wood effect dash - Change dash
no cd player - Change to cd player
dont love the alloys - change alloys
no ABS - dont really need these

Bit dear imo, but it looks ok to me

I dont know why MK4 Astras command a premium over, for example a Vectra. I bought my V plate in good condition with 67k for only £800 in 2008.
