Hi all I bought myself an Astra Coupe turbo the other day from an independent car garage. It's completely unmodified, full service history and at 65k.
Generally shes pretty sweet. However, I have a problem which I have so far been unable to diagnose. Basically I get lots of smoke/steam from the exhaust on startup and on idle even when the engine has been fully warmed after a long run. Everyone I asked seems to think its condensation but surely that would stop after a little while? I also thought it could possibly be the head gasket as there has also been a slight loss of coolent but it really is only a very small amount and the other tell tale signs such as oil on dipstick, mayo round oil cap and oil in the water are not present. Could anyone suggest anything?
I would have thought judging by the amuont of steam coming out that the coolent level would fall alot more rapidly than it is so i'm really uncertain. The car is still under warranty so I would like to get it all sorted without having to pay for it
Also if it helps whatever is coming out the exhaust doesn't seem to have much of an odour but the other day it smelt a bit like marzipan! I can also feel moisture if I put my hand next to the exhausty and a mate was following me the the other day and said he saw water dripping out from the exhaust.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
