    Smile z17dtj engine

    hi
i have been unfortunate enough to have received an astra with the above engine, we are supposed to get in the region of 9.9 miles to the litre but i reckon i am getting more like 9.9 litres to the mile, it is the thirstiest car imaginable, even taking into account the odd wrong tyre pressure or taking a fat bird for a spin i see no reason for it.
i stopped using cruise control altogether and am sticking to 2000 revs max but it is still a gobbler.
my garage were of little help, when i showed them the handbook to try and explain the fuel economy statistics inside they were lost, but on pages 217/8 it does show that whatever the statistics say, throughout the fleet this engine looks to be the dog of them all.
a copy of the handbook is here
    http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vaux/stati...ra_OM_09AG.pdf

what i would like to know is
    1. how many miles to the litre do vauxhall claim it will do,
    2. how many miles to the litre is realistic to someone doing 30,000 miles on a mixed selection of roads
many thanx indeed in advance to anyone helping me with this request
    tony

it has worked out at 8.63 miles per litre, if anyone else with this car has any figures i would be most gratefull for feedback

I have the estate version with this engine and I average about 520 miles on a tank. I do run it on she'll nitro though.
mostly a and b roads with some town driving.
