    Queries about de-restricting air box

    Hi all,

I currently have a piperx cone filter on my ACT. I noticed for the 1st time heat soak recently when the engine was warm. I also am not sure if I am keen on the induction sound as it is a turbo. Can anyone advise me how much it will cost to get a de-restricted box and the pipe from the air intake to the box itself. The last owner removed this & put some flexible piping in it's place which looks a real bodge.

Also which is the best air box/intake to use I hear people saying the 2.2 or 1.9 CDTi iirc.

Lastly will this lower the waste gate flutter noise and will it be an easy job to fit?

Get some piccy up and we can see whats you current setup, you may be able to use for the 1.9 cdti conversion.

Some may agree, also, some will disagree, the cdti is the best setup you can get, lol.

heat soak is when the induction cone is sat next to engine and draws hot air in off the engine as opposed to cold air from outside causing a reduction inpower

Heat soak is when the engine is sucking in warm air from within the engine bay through its intake. The engine needs cold dense air which contains lots of oxygen for it to perform at optimum efficiency. If the engine is starved of this oxygen (due to warm air being sucked in within the engine bay by a non enclosed filter), performance will decrease due to less oxygen for combustion inside of the engine.

You can "try" to limit heatsoak by either:

Using standard filter setup, it's not just there for the hell of it,
Using an enlcosed aftermarket cone filter, or using a heatshield,
Moving the filter away from the engine, in a remote corner near sufficient cold air flow,
Just use a uprated panel filter in the standard airbox, slightly more airflow without risk of heat increase,
    Adding more cold air feeds...

Heaksoak is also affected by other internal parts, but for your question, that should be a good enough answer. ^
