    HID Beam Pattern

Ive recently fitted some 10000k 35w hid bulbs in my standard astra coupe headlights. There very bright dont get me wrong but they light everything up i was wondering if there was a way to get the beam pattern back or will i have to buy some sharkeye headlights??

    Cheers Danny

Have you been to an MOT centre & asked them to check out the alignment?

HID bulbs are very different to a halogen bulbs, halogen's are pretty much all the same in size shape and length especially the point where the element is. Standard headlights/reflectors are made with this element position in mind and therefore the focal point is optimised producing the best light pattern and spread. HID bulbs have two electrodes light is produced by an arc, the position of this arc can be very different from one manufacturer to another it will almost certainly be different from a halogen bulb. That will have a big effect on the focal point of the lens and thus the spread and pattern of the light that will be thrown out.

Im my experience 10k is also too much so is 8k, 6k works a treat and if you have HID bulbs that match the positioning of the halogen element the pattern as you say returns. Anything above 8k is really about light colour (blue) rather than improving light out put.

Try german ebay for sharkeyes/similar, stuff like that seems to pop up on there more often. Make sure its rhd/lhd switchable though
