    Any keen Photographers?

    Hey all.

I'm thinking of starting a new hobby, to which I'm think of doing photography.

I've looked at local college coases, and theres a night one that goes on, so that perfect for me.

My dilemer is what camera to have.

I've looked and looked at all the books and reveiws, but I'm stuck on three models...

    Nikon D5000
    Canon EOS 450
    Canon EOS 500

Admittingly I'm swaying towards the Nikon, but the Canons keep making me think twice.

I want to do, Motorsports, Sports (skateboarding), Landscapes, and nightwork - I love doing derelict buldings...

Anyone fancy giving a newbi some advice?

    Tah!

I've got a Nikon ( D40 ) and can only say positive things about it. Never let me down in any types of photography, such as airshows, macro and night time shots. So the nikon gets a +1 from me

I started with a Nikon, but tried Canon and have stuck with them. I have both a Canon DSLR and a normal compact. Both takes stunning pics and cannot fault the build quality.

Buying the camera is the easy part. Its the huge selection of lenses which gives me the headache

You've read the reviews and got a short list. Next thing you should be doing is going to a shop and handling them, see how comfortable they are, where the controls are positioned - does it suit you.
This could make your mind up for you!

I've got a 400D and a mate has the 450D, another had a Nikon and personally i'd reccomend canon every time, also give you the option to get a Canon 50mm f1.8 which yo'll soon learn is a great bit of kit.

You're gonna want to look carefully at lenses, and for skate shots you'd better look into offboard flashes.

My dad has got the D5000 so used it a couple of times. Its a nice camera, pretty similar to my D80 so was easy for me to use.
Only worry I would have with it is the screen. Because it flips out, down, turns 180 degrees etc, I think I would be too heavy handed and end up breaking it

As has already been said just get into a shop and have a hold and feel of each one.

Planning to go to Jessops the weekend So I'll fondle the cameras then, I just wanted to get a few "real user" points, before getting the "sale points".

i just want to know what people really think, from people that use them, and not sell them.

I'm tempted by the D5000 more and more, I've found one that comes with a kit lens, and a zoomy lens, which sounds fantastic!

Will try both, the 450D and the D5000, and will see which feels nicer

I have a Nikon D60 and tried the cannon equivilent but found the controls were easier set out and to use on the Nikon. But as already said this will all come down to personal preference so have a play with each and dont be afraid to walk away and get it cheaper else where
