anyone know the purpose of this?

    hi peeps,

removed my turbo at the weeknd, there is a stainless steel piece of metal (manifold gasket shaped) between the manifold and the engine, a piece of it has broken off
any1 know what the purpose of this is?
is it simply just to stop the manifold bolts from rusting onto the engine???
will i get away with putting it back on, or should i replace it?

    cheers

Are you sure it has broken off? IIRC it does look as though the bottom right section has broken off, last 2 studs are missing I think.

It is supposed to be like that... god knows why though.

dont think its a gasket, (its a thick piece of stainless)
i have the mani gaskets too, already bought the new gasket.
thought it might be there to stop the studs/nuts rusting onto the manifold(making it impossible to get them off).
(i'm at work all day so no pic at the mo)

Here is a picture for you... Are you talking about the washer plate that is shown. Fitted over the manifold and acts as a washer for the studs?

And, it has a section missing so that you can fit it over the manifold.

    thats it!!
so it just acts as a washer, and there is a bit that is seperate so you are able to get it over the manifold?
    Makes sense.
    thanks all for your help

So its not "between the manifold and the engine" as you originally said....
