    Painting centre console

    Hey guys. I seem to be having problems when painting the centre console ive managed to prime up the panels from the handbrake up to panel which has TC button in but when painting the top part it reacts every time ive been following the HOW-TO but no good is there anything i should be doing that isnt in the HOW-TO?? What has everyone else done to get theres perfect??

    Could be one of a couple of things, it may be contaminated with silicon spray & needs a thorough cleaning with panel wipe. Also, there is a coating on the plastic, you have to give it a real good scuffing down with sandpaper, before sealing it with plastic primer.

    cheers man gave it a better sanding with a rougher paper and the primers gone on with no problems.

    Im close to putting lacquer on my plastics do i put it straight on top of my main colour or do i sand it a little with very fine paper first??

    yeah ive been following that guide mate an that says to sand after lacquer. but im sure ive also read somewhere else to lightly sand before lacquer just cant find where ive seen it at.

    Depends what paint it is. If it's a metallic or pearlescent don't sand the colour coat, just wait til the lacquer has dried then wet sand that - don't use the 1200 grit it recommends in the guide though, go for at least 2000 grit, if not 2500. Make sure the lacquer has fully dried before you do this though, and polish it up afterwards using t-cut and then a finer polish. Should come up like a charm.

    i used star silver on mine which is metallic, and just lacquered straight over the colour, came up looking ace. just remember to leave a bit longer between coats as it takes longer to dry, i left at least 6 hrs between mine doing 6/7 coats
