    throttle body

just a quick question. just had a go at cleaning the throttle body, it was dirty but not severe. i cleaned the circle valve thing and around it, just wondering how far u actually go? as i could only get my fingers down a few inches but can see a load of carbon resting on the bottom.

best done off the car for effective and thorough cleaning. if done on car then just ensure that the throttle throat is wiped out with carb cleaner/petrol until shiney and that the butterfly is also spotless, especially along it's edges where it meets the side walls of the throttle body as this is the air gap on idle

yes mate, 4 torx bolts, electrical plug and a water pipe to plug. then you will be able to get at all the nook and crannies and it will run so much better afterwards. best to get a new thrrottle body gasket from vauxhall for refitting it, gives a good airtight finish and they don't cost much

I tried this with mine but there was no way in hell it was going shiny.

I even whipped out the Megs Metal Polysh which did bugger all.

It's clean, but has a sort of yellow tinge on the butterfly. Any ideas to get it a mirror finish?

kev mate, the butterfly will never go particularly shiney as such, due to the metal used. i was more meaning the throttle body walls/throat should come shiney...ish. i use a mixture of 50/50 carb cleaner and a degreaser that my B.I.Law gives me from his garage and i use a dremmil type tool with a polish bit on it then finish of with a final polish with petrol. maybe i go a bit too far with the cleaning but it really seems to keep my Astra's running sweet
