    Corsa C - Cambelt?

    Hello,

Just a quick query (on behalf of Father-In-Law)!! He has a 2003 (pre-facelift) Corsa C, 1.2 SXi approx 50K miles. He thought the car needed a service and asked me about it. I said that he should check the service book (to see if it's due or not) at which point he mentioned that the cambelt had never been changed. Alarm bells started ringing to me and I said it might be worth making sure it was done.

So, off he went to the local garage (good reputation - I use them myself when out of warranty period) and they said his engine didn't have a cambelt! Apparently they called an image of the engine up on the PC in the workshop. Is this correct? I thought the 1.2 had a cambelt - or is it a timing chain?

Remember I'm getting this information 3rd hand - Fahter-in-law, Mother-in-law, Mrs - you know how it is!!

    Thanks for you help,
    John P.

    Thanks Wardy,

I was getting a bit twitchy - as the father-in-law is too i expect! Do timing chains ever need to be changed - presumably they are made of metal they last a bit longer than the rubber cambelts?

    Thanks,
    John P.

iv seen a few fail and yes metal to metal things do wear out
bikes have cam chains and they get changed a fair bit and bikes arnt used as much as cars in some cases
get the garage to take the rocker cover off and have a peak at the chain and see what condition it is in just to be on the safe side
as when they fail oooh they fail good

It'll be fine with regular oil changes.

Thanks for the information folks - I'll pass it all on. He does keep it well serviced so hopefully should be OK, would be well worth a look though.

    Cheers..

If it's serviced regularly he'll have nothing to worry about.

Not worth taking a look as on 50,000 miles any wear will be unnoticeable, and still well within Vauxhalls recommended lifespan.
