    diffence between a 16v and an 8v?

    always wondrd just never had teh balls to ask but i wanna knoww

    oil filler cap is on the other side of the rocker cover.on the cdti engine.
    if i wanted to be right all the time i would change my title to mrs ledster

    a 16v has 4 valves per cylinder(2intake ,2 exhaust) and 2 camshafts to operate them (double overhead cams); and a 8v is a conventional 2 valve per cylinder 1 intake 1 exhaust operated by a single over head cam

    8valves tend to be more free revving (less drag on the engine)
    where as the 16 valves have another camshaft to turn along with 8 extra valves, springs, tappets and other bits. so they have more weight and friction to over come to get to the engine turning over quicker, but what you lose in weight and etc, you more than make up for in refinement, power, torque etc

    and these days 95% of inline 4 cylinder engines have 16valve
