Unhappy Mk4 SRi X20XEV, won't do pedal test

    Hello,

    I've got a Mk4 SRi, its the X20XEV engine.

Not so long ago I changed the engine after it blew up on me, and since then although its been running OK, the engine MIL light has been on.

I have been trying to read the fault code from it, but the pedal test (hold down brake and accel and switch igntition on) just doesn't seem to work on this car. Also, I borrowed an OBD2 reader to try that, and it won't connect to the car. I called the manufacturers of the reader, and they told me the car was too old for OBD2, and therefore the reader wasn't able to connect.

The OBD2 connector is present though, with pins in all the right places!

Can anyone help me with reading the codes from the car? Not the richest person in the world right now so I really need to sort this one myself...

    Many Thanks,

    Avro..

as above - paperclip test on your XEV

Although you have a 16 pin OBDII port - your ECU is only OBDI compliant therefore the majority of the handheld scanners on the market (cheapies that is) wont work

So any update on the EML then?
