Will I get a Z16XE engine in the back of a VectraB hatch?

    Not fitted, obviously

I'm off to pick an engine up later this week and the only car I can get hold of at present is a VectraB hatch. Will 3 of us manage to lift a Z16XE engine (no gearbox) into the back of it OK?

Absolutely no idea... but pics are a must.

Twin engined veccy sounds nice Chris.

Also will the suspension take the weight? 3 adults and an engine? Just a though.

    Good luck though.

We can load the boot full for holidays, have two adults and two kids in the car and be fine, so I don't think a small block engine will be a problem for weight, it's more managing to lift the thing into the boot

theyre not the heaviest of engines mate, should be able to lift it with 3 people with relative ease, its more awkward than heavy

Easy... after all Vectra B's were used to haul bootfulls of carpet samples and assorted novelty toys the length and width of Britain by sales reps in the late 90's so an engine will pose no problem whatsoever.

Just bear in mind, if you have an head on accident then said engine will have no issue breaking through the back seats, front seats, you and the windscreen as it continues merrily it's journey.

Yeah I had wondered on that a little...not really a nice thought, unsure if it could be strapped down somehow.

It could but the standard eyelets in the Vectra will do nothing in an accident except get ripped out the floor. I used to lob engines in the boot without a thought untill one day we had to break hard and the engine came rolling forward which was a tad pant fillingly scary. After that we ran a suitable strap or rope round a strong point on the engine and out under the boot to either the tow hook or towbar. Ok so it may still break loose in an impact but at least it was help in place a tad more securely and wouldn't move if we had to break heavily.

One option on the Vectar is to move the engine as far forward as you can behind the rear seats, sit it in an old tyre (minus rim) to keep it steady and upright. Using a ratchet starp, feed it round the back of the engine and then each end to the seatbelt mount points out by the doors at the arches. Next, another strap round between the engine and seat beacks and out under the boot lid to the tow hitch and pull both straps tight, that should keep it in place firmly. If it breaks loose at that, chances are it's not the engine that will kill you.
