Quick Question Regarding Front Fog Lights.

I know if you drive with your back fog lights on you "could" get pulled over and fined, or this is what i was taught when i was learning to drive.

So why is it i always see people driving around with there front fog lights on? is this allowed? There wasme thinking front fog lights where meant for fog.... not for every day driving?

I just want to clear this up before i pass judgement on those who do have front fog lights on at all times.

Driving with front fogs on without foggy conditions is a stoppable affence.
Police dont like it to much but people still do it cause they think it looks cool.
There is loads of info out there so have a search.

Fog lights are to be used only in fog, but some drivers assume it is fine driving with them on all day long. You are correct that fogs are illegal when it isnt foggy.

highway code states that you should not use your front fogs until visibility is down to 100m and the rear one when when its even worse. and as above you will get nicked for using them in the wrong conditions

But what i do not understand is, why do people have them on in clear day light? you can't see the effects of them? so why bother? most pointless thing ever, just annoys other people.

If i was driving down a dark alloys and had fall beams on, would putting the fog lights on help at all? just curious.

Some younger drivers seem to think its cool, or their car looks better. They dont help you see, they help others see you.

fog lights are aimed to be lower, and so penetrate fog better, allowing car to see slightly further. Having fog lights on with normal beam will only really light up the metre or so that your headlights dont cover at the front. So no benefit really in normal dark conditions to dimmed beam.

The affects of foglights are the extra 50HP they give out :O for the little saxo and 106 you see!

Sweet. Really greatful for the feedback guys. Will keep this in mind when i next see people with them on who are my mates.

I was thinking of getting some really bright lights for full beams to shine in their faces when they have them on for no reason

Probably cause more problems than its worth though.

It isn't helped by a growing number of TV adverts for cars where the foglights are on in normal driving conditions...
