I'm not an expert with cars so would be useful to get some advice. The engine warning light appeared on my Astra (1.6 - 56 plate - 45K miles) last week and I took it in to be told it was the temperature censor. They changed it and after the diagnostics stuff was charged £140 for the privilege.
The same light came on again yesterday so I went back in and now they say it is either the thermostat or the ECU. The former will cost £250 to be changed and the latter £650. The stupid things is they don't know which and so if they try the thermostat and it isn't that which is the problem they'll have to change the ECU and I will still have to pay for the thermostat. Basically I'm staring a £1100 total bill for this light.
It strikes me as totally unfair to pay for something when it might not be needed and it's their fault they can't diagnose the problem and I have probably already paid for the temperature censor which had no fault.
They've talked about fault code P1614, B3055 and P0115.
Any advice would be very gratefully received.
