    thermostat help needed please :)

    hiya i have just brought a new thermostat from euro car parts, and a friend said to put it in boiling water to see if it opens . so have done that and it lets water in slowly but then when u put it in cold water seems to let the water in just the same am i doing sumthink stupid or is it just an inacurate test to put it in hot water

    if you've bought a NEW thermostat surely it should work, what engine car do you have? if its a 1.8 they're a doddle to fit, bang it on your car and get it running!

    its a 1.4 z14xe aint got the proper gasket for it got one from a lil mechanic and he just said use that and gasket sealent lol so dno weather to do that or get the proper gasket from vauxhall . i just dont wanna do all of that then find out it ***** aswell . main reason im doing is beacuse of mpg full tank gets me like 250 miles

    Just to let you know m8 i contacted my Vauxhall parts dealer the other day as i was wanting a gasket for my thermostat housing as i to am going to change my thermostat but they told me i would need to buy the full kit i.e thermostat and housing it's the only way they will give me the gasket as they don't sell them separate.

    i bought the gasket seperate. They do sell it. Ill hunt out the P/No if needed.

    Its just an o ring anyway

    ive got a sealing ring just didnt seem to fit very well thought would be easier to just get a proper one may just fit it and wack a load of sealant around it

    definetly get the right gasket. if the wrong one dosent do the job its going to leak all over the place and require the timing belt off again.

    timing belt and thermostat is only on 8v engines - not relevant here


    if you havent got a new gasket then just reuse ur old one but run a bead of silicone round the edge as shown in the following link

    For some reason i thought yous were talking about water pumps when i posted that... But on reading it again i've no idea where i got that from.
