Changing the gear knob 'top' circle?

I'm assuming this can be done, but can you just lift the top gel circle off the gear knob and stick another one on instead?

Thinking of a minor colour coordinated one, black background, blue for the gear positions/numbers to tie in with the rest of the interior and the new gear gaitors.

Yes, the insert is just a tight fit in the top of the gear lever.

As it's not flat & instead it's rounded (sort of) would it not be a nuisance to get it to seal along the rim of the replacement?

Have thought about this in the past too.

Easier (as I was thinking in the car on the way to work) to machine sand the existing one flat, then stick a new disc to the top?

bear in mind that they are hollow
the plastic is only a couple of mm thick so you wont be able to machine much off

So long as I can flat it down and be left with a flat edge around the circle, I can get a new disc cut at work without problem.

Some of the gel discs are very very flexible, so it may just stick over the top of the OEM disc...

Yeah that's what i was thinking

I got a gel-like sticker for my front grille, which has lasted a year or so & going strong.

Perhaps if you hold it in place for a while, it'll be A-ok.
