    Steering column vibration... HELP!

    hi,

my steering wheel vibrates really badly when i hit about 60mph... this didnt happen when i bought the car in september but for the last 2 months i borrowed some momo gtr 17" alloys off a mate and thats when the vibrating began.

but i ignored it thinking it was the new wheels and knowing they were going back i assumed it was the wheels that were the problem so ignored it.

however i have now put my standard 16" sxi alloys back on and the problem still persists but the car also pulls slightly to the right!

now im a complete noob to stuff like this and i have no idea what the problem is but it doesnt sound cheep...

    anyone have any ideas?

    cheers!

have a mate who knows what hes looking at to look at the steering coloum bushes for any play, other than that the obvious wheels balanced, tracking done.

You need your wheels balanced & your tracking checked.
Have you checked the tyre pressures?

well yeah the tracking and balance was fine before i changed the wheels, but now i put them back on the problem is there!

i will have to book it into the garage for next weekend then and see what they say, but it feels like theres something else wrong other than tracking and balancing, like a component on the car :S

All it takes is for you to catch one pothole & your tracking can go out, doesn't matter when it was done last.

You'd be surprised how bad unbalanced wheels can feel. Easy enough to think a wheel weight could have been knocked off your old wheels in storage, and that the borrowed ones were either badly balanced or perhaps were damaged. I even had a dead snail on my front alloy that made them vibrate the wheel until I found it and removed it when washing the car! Darn big snail too!

Don't go worrying about other faults until you've had the balance/tracking checked.

60mph is where the wobbling usually starts for me, can't get my wheels balanced for love no money around here as all the places seem useless at doing it!
