    Evaporative vent valve fault

Would code 0443 mean a new valve or is it likely to be caused by something else?
that's the only fault that's coming up and the car keeps stalling.

not always, it can also be caused by issues with the charcoal cannister and even other fuel related componants. i have never known the purge valves themselves to fail except for one, but have changed a few cannisters to good effect
