Question Snow tyre’s where to buy from and do they make a difference?

I have a Mk 4, 1.8 SRi and I'm finding it gets stuck in the snow very easily compared to previous cars.

Thinking in investing some Snow & Mud tyres, the owner manual says I should fit R15 185/65's and it's needs to be a 5 stud wheel.

Thinking the best plan would be to buy some plain old steel wheels, get good S&M tyres fitted and get them on the car from mid December and keep them on till mid March.

To keep the price down might only go for two to start with but I've no ideal where to buy the steel wheels from, where do other people shop for such things? Vauxhall direct?
Also is there many people who have done this already and do the special tyres make a big difference?

    Thanks, DD

I saw a car in Peaks on New Years day had some sort of mesh strapped round the front tyres (FWD)
I didnt have a clue if this would make a difference in the snow as it was parked up

Thats what I saw in the Peaks, and looked abit weird, but guessing in shallow snow and ice would work ideal.
