    Can door speakers freeze?

I've had the same issue twice now - get in the car, turn radio on, and only the front tweeters and rear work, door speakers are not producing any sound.

Last time it took 15 mins, today it took 30 mins of driving and then the drivers speaker crackled for about 10 seconds and gradually came to life. Then the passenger door speaker did the same thing a few minutes later.

All a bit wierd really - the amp feeds an inline crossover (in the doors) which then feeds the tweeter/mid. I initially thought it was the amp as the last time it was only the drivers mid that was off, but today it was both speakers. Today was also the coldest day I've known, -8c on the dash gauge.

Could the door speakers be damp (likely), which is frozen stopping them from moving, which then thaws out after a bit of driving?

Only if they have got wet & it's very cold.
    Not good for the speaker.
Time to get the door cards off & investigate.

I can't think of anything else it could be unless it is the amp - the amp has been faulty in the past, the front-right mid went even though the tweeter stayed on. I swapped the F/R outputs over and switched the relevant knobs and it worked (bridging sub on 'front' rather than 'rear'), but I don't know why the amp would supply treble but not mid...

If you're running the front speakers with the crossover then the amp is probably OK.
I'd be checking the speakers & the wiring to/from the crossover in that door.

The drivers side mid stopped last year and was definitely the amp at fault as I could replicate the fault 100% by switching input and output cabling, but it's wierd how it happened on one side again last week, then both sides today.

I'll try to get the door cards off and have a check, cheers!
