    2.2 16v engine

    is there anything you need to watch out for with these as iv heard they are unreliable and are known for snapping timing chains

    timing chain and oil spray nozzle, older ones tend to clog up leading to the chain snapping

    mine is a 2002 do you think it will be affected as car has no history at all

    will be changing oil next week and running a flush through as prev owner didnt seem to care about it in the sligheist

    if car has no history - then change the chain kit and nozzle - simple really

    if its got no history on it then i'd get it changed, better to be safe than sorry. not sure the water pump is run off the chain as well. how many miles it done

    its at 119k with one prev owner i am going to write to him to try and find out were car has been service to track down atleast some history

    if theres no service or stamps or anything then surely contacting the prev owner aint gonna be much use!

    He can tell u whatever u want to hear..... but if no documents/evidence/invoices were left with the car then surely hes not gonna have them at hand!?

    The parts are reasonable enough and not a hard job - just a little time consuming but a job that should be done especially with it being over the 100k mark

    just my personal opinion though

    It doesn't really need changing normally. Some people change it at 80K, as I would (if I still had mine).

    But the earlier models did have a problem as explained above. There is a list of engine numbers that are affected somewhere, but I can never find it.

    But tbh I would get it done anyway... it will be ~ £300-350 and its peace of mind and should not need doing again while you own the car.
